About the RoleThe Audio Feature & Validation Engineer will be responsible for deriving, developing, documenting, and presenting new innovative audio features that will extend and strengthen the Harman Automotive Car Audio technology portfolio & product value. As part of the development duties this person will also be creating & aligning signal flow designs, doing complex implementations, and performing review as well as validation tasks.In addition to extensive hands-on experience based on a solid academic foundation, 8 years+ experience in Audio development, and state-of-the-art technology expertise, he/she must be a passionate & culturally open individual to closely work with diverse teams & effectively build sustainable relationships.What You Will Do
  • Technology Feature Development & Integration - Ideate, align & execute the development & validation of new audio features in close collaboration with our Audio Feature Algorithm & DSP team, paying attention to best audio performance and low footprint. You will own features and actively drive the creation of user stories with the support of the project lead. The success of this role will be assessed on the quality, timeliness of delivery, and the engineering efficiency.
  • Innovation - Come up with new ideas & creative approaches, fostering an “out of the box” thinking. Together with the team you will create new IP that helps to protect our technologies & differentiate from competitors. Depending on the project phase and your skill set there will be opportunities to rotate within the larger team to contribute with algorithm.
  • Documentation - You will create of easy & intuitive documentation of feature technologies that gets closely aligned with the users.
  • Collaboration - To ensure the technology development meets the expectations and gets acceptance from users, you will act as a global team player and build winning relations ships with the global Automotive teams and colleagues. The ability to effectively communicate a compelling vision, inspire and understand the motivation of others, skillfully negotiate to achieve a fair outcome or promote a common cause, and considerately resolve conflict are key skills for this role.
  • Business Acumen - Keep the return-of-investment and technology value in mind when making decision for development approaches. Foster this value-based mindset when working with colleagues.
What You Need to Be Successful
  • Technology Development - strong experience in innovative audio feature development: 8+ years hands on experience in creating audio features and signal flows, acoustical measurements, and tuning of car audio systems. Strong experience with state-of-the-art audio SW applications is absolutely required. You have hands on experience in using Python and/or MATLAB. You also have a high-quality mindset and understand what is required to support the development of an audio feature from ideation to implementation and validation.
  • Teamwork and Mentoring - a structured work style that allows you to apply your high ethical standards, very good technical skills, analytical thinking, and high creativity within a motivated team. You are a good educator who is fostering the sharing of information, serves as a mentor, and can guide less experienced engineers.
  • Acoustics -a profound academic foundation combined with practical experience in electroacoustics, psychoacoustics, and room acoustics with a focus on in-car acoustics. You are very familiar with the design and application of acoustical measurement methods, tools, as well with the analysis of measurement results such as impulse responses, polar plots, spectrograms and similar. Hands on experience in designing loudspeaker systems is a plus.
  • Communication - you are an open and gracious communicator, comfortable with the lingo of acoustics and software development, enabling you to understand and explain needs and ideas from internal & external customers to your diverse and global team, as well as communicating concepts and implementations to the stakeholders.
  • Innovation - experience in research, and the development of digital (audio) signal processing and algorithm development. Knowledge in AI/ML domain and related fields is a plus.
  • Academic Background - bachelor's or master's degree in Sound Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Signal Processing or equivalent.
  • Software Product Development - experience in software development, continuous integration, versioning, testing, documentation, and agile team collaboration.
